So you bought a milk goat (or cow) now you need all the materials to milk. No worry this list will have everything you need to get started and will keep your budget happy. You really do not need that much stuff to start milking. You can probably get by mostly with things already in your house and when on a budget that is a huge relief. What you need to milk:
- Milking Stand Some goats you can get by with just tying them to a post or fence, but most you can't so you will need to build a milking stand or stanchion. Check out my post on an easy way to do this with scrap wood laying around the house -Udder Wash (head over and find my recipe on how to make your own) -Washcloth (Antibacterial Microfiber Cloths EPA Registered - 16"x16" Contains Killing Power SilverClear(TM) Treatment) Amazon (or you can use any clean towel or rag)
-Stainless Steel Milking Pail (or a kitchen pot works just fine as well). You can also use a glass bowl but these are more likely to break. Anything but plastic or wood will pretty much work. (Lindy's 4-qt Stainless Steel Pail) Amazon HINT: when milking Nigerian Dwarfs a pot works better as the milking pails tend to be too tall.
-Teat Dip (head over and find my recipe on how to make your own)
-Funnel (any funnel will work or Kuechenprofi 18/10 Stainless Steel Funnel with Filter) Amazon
-Filters (Ken Ag Nongauze Disk Tan 6.5 Inch - D110 - 100 count) No alternative for these this is exactly what I use Amazon
-Canning Jars with plastic lids for storage
You will also need to give your goat some sort of feed on the stand, but that is another post. Happy Milking!
