OUR STORY
When our oldest kiddo was first born we realized he had extremely sensitive skin. We tried so many different brands all deemed “natural” and nothing seemed to work. We quickly learned that even the most “trusted” and “natural” name brand skincare products are filled with toxic ingredients. We knew the skincare products were the cause of the problem, but couldn’t find a company that really was truly natural. Knowing all-natural skincare products could help nourish and soothe his skin we began the journey of making our own. Seeing the amazing results from using our handcrafted products compelled us to start making our products for others and led to the creation of the Natural Days Farm.
How did we decided to make goat milk soap?
After about a year of stomach aches and constant spit ups we discovered our oldest could not process the larger protein in cow milk. The Dr. suggested going totally dairy free for the whole family, but that wasn’t an option for us. I mean have you looked at ingredients lists, dairy is in everything! I started doing research and found a lot of people were having huge luck with goat milk as an alternative. We decided to give this a try and purchased a herd share for about 3 months. The results were amazing, no more issues, but at $30/ month for 2 gallons of milk sustaining the herd share long term wasn’t practical. I then convinced my husband to get a couple dairy goats. We started with 2 Nigerian Dwarfs named Fiona and Fire. Fiona was in milk when I first got her so I had to quickly learn not only how to care for goats, but also how to milk them and handle that raw milk so it was safe for my family. Goats are a bit addictive and it didn’t take long before our herd grew. I had found in my research goat milk had amazing benefits for the skin. Goat milk has a pH that is very similar to that of the human body and is therefore easily absorbed and great for sensitive skin. It contains Alpha Hydroxy Acids, which help remove dead skin cells as well as many vitamins, proteins, and minerals that not only help repair damaged tissues but also prevent damage and maintain healthy moisturized skin. Since I had tons of extra it was a no brainer to start putting it in my soap.
What you should know about regular or store bought soap.
Your skin is your largest organ and what you put on in will absorb and enter your bloodstream. If you put something into your body (such as eating) it will get filtered out by the liver and kidneys. But what you put on your skin does not get filtered out the same way. This is pretty huge, especially knowing that store bought soap and often many “all natural” or handmade soaps contain huge amounts of chemicals.
Have you ever looked at the ingredients in your soap, body wash, lotion, etc.…? Not only can you not pronounce many of the names, but anything that says “fragrance” can be 1 to many of 10,000 different chemicals! All store bought soaps contain some form of:
· Chemicals
· Alcohol
· GMO oils
· Artificial preservatives
· Dyes
· Synthetic fragrances & scents
· Fillers
These are just the ingredients they list. If there is less than 1% of that item they aren’t required to disclose it on the lables or if the ingredient is proprietary or considered a trade secret they do not have to disclose it. Wow, just think what might be in your soap going on your skin and into your bloodstream?
Another thing to consider is our environment. Many soaps use palm oil. Anyone who has been to a zoo lately probably knows that harvesting palm oil is destroying many animals’ habitats. Now you can purchase sustainable and safe harvesting practice palm oil, but this is very expensive, and cost prohibited in most cases and not what most soap makers use. Is palm oil beneficial to your skin? Sure, but at what cost?
