Detox Baths

SMLXL

Why To

We are expose to toxins on a daily basis, from sources like pollution, processed foods, pesticides, even our cleaning and hygiene products. Those toxins will continue to build up and start effecting our health. Detox baths are a great solution to this problem. Detox baths are one of the easiest and most relaxing ways to release the built up chemicals in our system. Whenever I find my kiddos becoming cranky, whinny, over hyper, sick, or just not themselves I make them a detox bath. I have them soak for 20-30 minutes (they usually end up playing with toys, but that is totally fine as long as they are in the water). The first 20 minutes will remove toxins from their system while the 10-20 minutes after that (if you can get the kids to stay in there that long) will allow their body to absorb the minerals in the water. Make sure to use hot water (don't burn the children best judgement here) as it will help them to sweat out impurities. Do NOT use any soap, shampoo, bubble bath or other products during detox baths. You are opening up all their pores in order to get chemicals and toxins out. If you use products with toxins in them it will have a super fast and straight route to the inside of the body and we certainly do not want that.

How To

There are a variety of recipes out there, but I am going to give you a good base to work off and then you can add or alter to fit your needs.

1 C Epsom salt

1/3 C Himalayan Sea Salt (regular sea salt will work too)

1/2 C baking soda (if on city water or water with known chemicals)

1-2 TBSPs coconut oil melted (avocado, olive, almond, jojoba, etc.. work as well)

10-15 drops EO of choice 1) Mix everything in nice warm bath water and soak for 20-40 minutes.

Be Prepared

After a bath the water can appear gray, brown, or other colors. This is pretty normal and due to the toxins that were released from the body. There is some talk that the certain colors relate to certain toxins or areas of the body the toxins were removed but there has not been any concrete proof on that.

Possible Additives

apple cider vinegar

clay

hydrogen peroxide

ginger

herbs

powdered milk

raw milk

almond milk

coconut milk

Which EO's to Use

There is no set oils you must use. It really depends on the issue you are having, but here are a few suggestion.

Eucalyptus: dry itchy winter skin & congestion

Rosemary: memory, digestion & achy muscles

Peppermint: not recommended by me

Lemon, Juniper, Patchouli: detoxification

Helichrysum, Turmeric, Myrrh: joint inflammation

Lavender, Sandalwood, Frankincense, Stress Away: depression anxiety, stress

Lavender, Tea tree, Roman Chamomile: skin conditions and relaxation

Clove, Cypress, pan away: pain relief

Clary sage, Geranium, Thyme: hormone balance
